🚀#10YearChallenge for @aispacefactory? 😉⠀
⠀
TERA (left) and MARSHA (right) will be 3D printed habitats built by the winner of the NASA 3D Printed Habitat Challenge, @aispacefactory!

Which one do you prefer? Comment TERA or MARSHA below!

AI SpaceFactory is a startup doing amazing work to enable humans to live on other worlds. Here's an interesting quote from an interview between @aispacefactory CEO @david_malott and @space.bandits 👇⠀
⠀
"The biggest obstacle to building in space is that construction materials are extremely expensive to launch. At a cost of $100 million to land a 5-ton lunar payload, an average Earth home weighing 50-tons would cost one billion dollars and require 10 roundtrips to the Moon to deliver. For the same cost, we could land 50 robotic rovers and build a lunar village—if we learn to harvest materials from the surface."⠀
⠀
💬Excited? You can follow their progress on Instagram @aispacefactory, and watch them build TERA (TERestrial Analogue) later this year! 👏 You may also be able to try living in TERA, so make sure to check them out to learn HOW! 😍⠀

Why do we need landing pads on Mars?⠀ ⠀ If we use retro-propulsive vertical landing, just like in the MARS series by NatGeo or the proposed Starship by SpaceX, there's a big danger for the first ship landing on Mars.⠀ ⠀ The thrusters can dig a huge crater in the ground if the soil is soft and mushy, thus making the landing area unpredictable and difficult to land on.⠀ ⠀ We have to land the first few ships somehow, but after that, we will need to establish firm landing pads that are predictable, flat and robust.⠀ ⠀ Do you think this is a danger?⠀ ⠀ Image: @natgeochannel ⠀ ⠀ #mars #themartian #martian #redplanet #martians #terraform #nature #space #science #universe #nasa #planet #cosmos #astronomy #exploration #astronaut #planets #spaceship #elonmusk #spacex #outerspace #solarsystem #esa #starship #bfr #elon #rocket #rockets #musk #falcon9

How would you spend your 6 months trip to Mars? I'd certainly read a lot of books, and write things.⠀ ⠀ Nowadays, I write my tips about becoming an astronaut (or a Marstronaut), and share them on my newsletter. Check the link in the bio @marstronauts , to sign up! 🚀⠀ ⠀ The emails are in a sequence, so you will get them from #1 , until you catch up.⠀ ⠀ They say you're the average of the 5 people you spend most of your time with. If you're surrounded by negative people, you should instead spend time alone, and read some books from authors you admire. 😍⠀ ⠀ Authors put all their knowledge, heart and soul into the books they write. By reading, you can adopt their thinking and ideas. You can absorb their 30-50-70 years of experience in their field in just a few hours.⠀ ⠀ And then, you can apply that knowledge to anything that you do in life. Readers are leaders. Expand your mind!⠀ ⠀ This amazing piece of art is from @andrian_luchian , freelance concept designer, who shows us the interior design of his LWS Gemini spaceship.⠀ ⠀ #mars #redplanet #martian #terraform #spacefacts #spacecraft #spacex #spacestation #spaceexplorer #spaceexploration #elonmusk #theuniverse #outerspace #interstellar #solarsystem #milkyway #nasa #esa #astronomy #astronomylover #astronomyfacts #cosmos #space #astronaut #internationalspacestation #spacetravel #physics #philosophy #cosmology

    Happy Birthday Curiosity! 🎂🎉🎈⠀ ⠀ This cute little rover landed on the surface of Mars exactly 7 Earth-years ago. @marscuriosity ⠀ ⠀ *EDIT: Curiosity only played it once on her first birthday!* Great post by @astrogeekz on how it sounds!⠀ ⠀ Did you know that Curiosity is female, thus should be referred to as "she"?⠀ ⠀ Credits: @astrogeekz ⠀ ⠀ #mars #redplanet #martian #terraform #spacefacts #spacecraft #spacex #spacestation #spaceexplorer #spaceexploration #elonmusk #theuniverse #outerspace #interstellar #solarsystem #milkyway #nasa #esa #astronomy #astronomylover #astronomyfacts #cosmos #space #astronaut #internationalspacestation #spacetravel #physics #philosophy #cosmology

SWIPE for the answer! 😉 It’s kinda sad, kinda ridiculous that we’re still stuck at $10k/kg to orbit. SpaceX achieved around $2k/kg to orbit, but we can do $200/kg to orbit. I will tell you how in the next post. Futuristic spacesuit concept from a game, Mass Effect. ⠀ On Mars, spacesuits should make movement easy without sacrificing protection and life support systems.⠀ ⠀ Could this one do that job?⠀ ⠀ #themartian #martian #mars #spacesuit #space #nasa #philosophy #cosmos #milkyway #astronomy #physics #astronaut #elonmusk #spacex #outerspace #solarsystem #cosmology #spacetravel #spacecraft #redplanet

How would airlocks work on rovers?⠀ ⠀ I was thinking a lot about this while watching the Martian.⠀ ⠀ There are two options:⠀ 1. There are two compartments, similar to the ISS, or the habitat doors in the movie⠀ ⠀ 2. There is one compartment, so before you open the hatch, the whole inside is depressurized.⠀ ⠀ The second option gives more room inside the rover (which is a bonus), but is more dangerous, and all inside equipment must be tested to work at basically vacuum.⠀ ⠀ (Yes, Mars has an atmosphere, but compared to 101 kPa sea level pressure on Earth, ~600 Pa is close to zero)⠀ ⠀ Which should we go with regarding small vehicles in the future?⠀ ⠀ Image: The Martian movie⠀ ⠀ #mars #themartian #martian #redplanet #martians #terraform #nature #space #science #universe #nasa #planet #cosmos #astronomy #exploration #astronaut #planets #spaceship #elonmusk #spacex #outerspace #solarsystem #esa #starship #scientist #esa #iss #scienceiscool #scienceteacher #sciencenerd
